In a previous blog, I offered four quick tips for organizing your business. And while an organized company is a productive business, you will have trouble cleaning up your business if you are not personally organized. Excellent organizers are successful because they create and stick to helpful tactics that lead them to be more productive. Here are my four tips on how you can become both organized and successful.

Make a Schedule

An obvious tip to becoming and staying organized is making a schedule, which includes a calendar and a to-do list. Your to-do list is the place where you define and organize what you’re going to do, and a well-organized calendar will help you stay on schedule. A calendar enables you to determine when you’re going to do tasks and how much time is needed to complete them, which will also prevent you from procrastinating. I recommend only using one calendar and color coding personal and professional events.

Schedule Interruptions

An essential aspect of creating a calendar is allowing time for interruptions. If you plan to complete one task from 8:00-8:40 and then another function from 8:41-9:22 you are setting yourself up for failure. Expect that your schedule may not go as planned, but having a schedule is better than not having one. To build a successful calendar, allow time for interruptions. This will prevent you from getting behind or becoming frustrated.

Use Time-Tracking Apps

If you find yourself having trouble staying on schedule, use a time-tracking app! Many applications can be downloaded on smartphones or computers that help track time. Time-tracking apps will help you log the time you spend on each project as well as allow you to schedule breaks. These apps can also help you determine your productivity level.

Stay Clean

Maintaining an organized work area is a huge component of success. An easy way to stay tidy is by allocating time each day or week to declutter and clean up. I recommend spending the last few minutes of each day, or at least Friday, cleaning up your desk. Don’t forget to keep your electronics organized as well. It’s easy to store many unnecessary files so be sure to declutter your electronics now and then.

Successful people are productive and productive people are organized. If you aim to be extremely successful, you should also learn how to organize your day efficiently. By following my tips for personal organization tips, you will be headed for success.
